MST leaders were recognized on the Power 50 list for advancing the City of Vancouver’s UNDRIP Action Plan, bringing affordable housing to Vancouver residents through the Attainable Housing Initiative, and shaping the hosting of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Vancouver.
Chief Justin George shared: “I am very humbled and honoured to receive this award, but it truly belongs to our Tsleil-Waututh Members, family, Administration, Elders, and our Ancestors. I want to thank our Nation Economic Development team as well as current and past leadership for their belief in Nation building. They have built a strong foundation on which we stand today.
This award is also a celebration of the strength of our MST Nations coming together. I am grateful to Chief Wayne Sparrow and our family at xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam Indian Band), as well as Chairperson Wilson Williams and our Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish Nation) family and their leadership teams, as we are all committed to working together as one to build prosperity for our MST communities.
It is our commitment and common belief to make it better today and for the future generations, as our Ancestors have done for all of us. We will continue forward as a Nation, as a People, and as a family, alongside our Musqueam and Squamish relatives. Let us all take pride in where we come from and how we work together as one. Our strength is in love, unity, and understanding.”
