Now that I’ve applied, what happens next?

1. Submit Application

Please ensure you submit your application before the deadline. We start to review the applications the day after the closing date.

2. Hiring Manager Review Application

This is entirely up to the hiring manager and how busy they are, but it can take up to 2 weeks. If you have not heard anything past 2 weeks, then I recommend a follow-up email/call. It’s possible that the position has been put on hold and typically HR is good at letting the candidates know this.

3. Prescreen

This is done through either email or phone call. You will receive a list of exploratory questions no more than 10 maximum. This can take up to a week depending on the number of applicants chosen for this stage.

4. Assessment

An assessment is an evaluation of your knowledge, skills, and abilities through either a real work scenario assignment or it could be a skill testing assessment done through an external provider called “ IBM Kenexa Proveit!” which we use to assess Microsoft Office Skills. This assessment is optional and up to the hiring manager and can also take up to 1 week.

5. Interview

This can take up to a week to complete depending on the number of candidates. The hiring managers usually include a panel of 2-3, and the interview usually takes no more than 1 hour and the panel members will take turns in asking you questions. After the interview is complete the hiring managers will debrief and score the scorecard to make a final decision.

6. Second Interview

Sometimes hiring managers like to request for a second interview that is more informal and more of a meet and greet. This can take one day because it’s usually with their final candidate(s)

7. Reference and Criminal Record Check

We use a company called Sterling Backcheck, they will call your references as well as complete your Criminal Record Check with the RCMP. This can take up to a week at times especially if the references that you’ve chosen are away on holidays, so it’s always best to give more references in case the primary ones are away.

8. Employment Offer/Hired

This is done after a positive backcheck has come back, and we present the successful candidate with the employment offer. Once they’ve signed they are officially hired! Sometimes this can take a few days, as some candidates like to review the employment offer in great detail prior to signing.

9. Send declines to unsuccessful candidates

This is done immediately after the successful candidate has signed their employment offer. We reach out to the unsuccessful candidates to let them know the position has been filled. This is usually done through email or phone, depending on the number of applicants.
