A beautiful design by 13-year-old səlilwətaɬ artist, Kadence Lánahmats George, has been selected as the official artwork for this year’s Pink Shirt Day – an annual movement dedicated to promoting kindness and raising awareness about bullying prevention.
Kadence’s design features a butterfly—kilila in hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓—and reflects Indigenous values of respect, kindness, inclusivity, and community, making the campaign’s message even more powerful.

Speaking of her design, Kadence said:
“Kilila hold deep cultural significance as a symbol of transformation. They embody the spirit of ‘Nəc̄əmat,’ where togetherness and collective strength are celebrated.”
On February 20, Kadence was honoured in a community gathering for her artistic achievement in winning the Naut’samawt Tribal Council’s Pink Shirt Design Contest, and for being the youngest to ever win.
Kadence will also feature in the Pink Shirt Day Canada Live broadcast, an interactive event celebrating resilience through art, storytelling, and discussions on building more inclusive communities.
