Our səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh Nation) Administration wishes to inform our external partners and members of the public that Chief Justin George has announced his decision to step down as Chief of səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh Nation) due to health and wellness considerations. He will remain in his role as Chief to support an effective transition period while decisions are made regarding next steps, in accordance with the First Nations Elections Act and internal səlilwətaɬ governance frameworks.
We acknowledge Chief George’s meaningful service and contributions to our Nation as Chief and wish him the very best.
As Chief George states: “After a great deal of reflection, I have made the decision to step down as Chief of səlilwətaɬ.
This is one of the most difficult decisions I have ever made. Serving as Chief has been one of the greatest honours of my life. I have been humbled by the trust placed in me and I will always carry with me the privilege of serving our people whom I love so much.
I leave the position with a full heart, knowing that I have served to the best of my ability, from a place of respect, compassion, and love in my heart for all our People. Please know I will get through these personal health matters 100 percent and I’ll become healthier from it.”
səlilwətaɬ Council and the Administration team will provide further updates on this transition to staff and the Tsleil-Waututh community. Please direct any questions to communications@twnation.ca.
