JOB SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Relationship Manager, the Relationship Specialist will support the building and maintaining of relationships with external partners, as well as actively participate in negotiations of relationship agreements. The Specialist will collaborate with the Relationship team and other TWN staff to meet the goals of the program and relationship agreements.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Relationship Building & Advocacy: 

  • Assist in the building and maintaining positive relationships with federal, provincial and local governments, private sector, academic institutions, and other Indigenous Nations, etc.
  • Ensure alignment and implementation of Tsleil-Waututh Nation’s Strategic Plan, Comprehensive Community Plan, Stewardship Policy, and economic development strategy.
  • Participate and collaborate on relationship agreement negotiations-document issues, suggestions, and resolutions.
  • Support the development and implementation of relationship agreements.
  • Advocate for the needs and goals of Tsleil-Waututh Nation.
  • Positively enhance and maintain TWN’s public image.

 

Project Management: 

  • Support and co-lead the development and growth of assigned relationships with external partners.
  • Prepare and lead meetings: review and provide briefing materials, create meeting agendas, record meeting notes and follow-up on action items.
  • Create reports, presentations, communications, and council information packages.
  • Oversee project specific budgets.
  • Collaborate and share information with other TWN staff.
  • Assist with the coordination of milestone events.
  • Adhere to proper record management of electronic documents.

 

Program Development: 

  • Provide feedback on processes that can provide program efficiency.
  • Collaborate on program development and strategic growth.
  • Assist in seeking and pursuing new funding opportunities.
  • Support in the organization of events/conferences/community information sessions.
     

Other duties as assigned/required.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree or combination of education and experience in a related field to Business Administration, Communications, Social Sciences, Indigenous Studies etc.
  • A minimum of two years professional experience working with First Nations.
  • Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License and access to dependable transportation.
  • Knowledge of Aboriginal rights and title and the strategies employed by the Tsleil-Waututh Nation to protect Tsleil-Waututh’s interests.
  • Knowledge of Aboriginal-focused legislation (UNDRIP, DRIPA, TRC Calls to Action).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Word, MS Teams, Excel).
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team.
  • Public speaking is an asset.
  • Financial management experience is an asset.

  • Business-casual dress code. Athleisure wear, ripped clothing, offensive language and/or logos is not permitted. Formal attire may be required, by direction of the Manager.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Significant desk work with long periods of manual dexterity activities (keyboard operations, filing).
  • Occasional travel to attend off-site meetings.
  • May need to stand for extended periods of time in incremental weather.

Environmental Conditions

  • Must synthesize complex and diverse information.
  • Dynamic environment with multiple demands, changing priorities and constant interruptions.
  • Highly sensitive legal, confidential and political issues and environment.
  • Engagement with other departments, crown governments, private sector, non-governmental organizations, academic institutions, proponents and other Indigenous Nations.
  • Occasional meetings outside normal office hours.
