Salary pay-range: $42,513.00 - $55,018.00 based on qualifications and experience.
Job Summary:
The role of the Community Engagement Coordinator will support the Community Engagement Team by leading engagement opportunities with our Membership including (i.e. information sessions, community meetings, focus group sessions (youth, elder, men and women), family meetings, and/or creation of community survey). By championing projects such as the Comprehensive Community Plan (CCP) and strengthening səlilwətaɬ visual and verbal identity you will ensure that the voice of the people is always at the forefront of the work that we do.
This position will need someone who has communication, coordination and facilitation, and reporting skills. Must be energetic and personable with a strong knowledge of Tsleil-Waututh Nation territory, culture and history and is passionate about bringing the voice of the community forward to create a great vision for our people.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Bring creative energy and approach to Community Engagement and Events
- Review background information and previous planning/ engagement
- Consults with Engagement team on meeting logistics: date/time, location, catering, technical support, cultural support with welcome / prayer song.
- With support from Communications and Engagement team, plans and executes engagement sessions related to CCP, Brand Guardians and engagement initiatives as required
- Organizing data and coordinating regular reviews of our Initiatives to ensure we are meeting the needs of Tsleil-Waututh people.
- Presents project updates, timelines, etc.
- Facilitates Engagement meetings, community events
- Compiles feedback from engagement sessions and action items.
- Identify any additional way of improving engagement
- Support the development of a Community Engagement Strategy
- Ensure all stakeholders are briefed on engagement proceedings
- Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications:
- Knowledge of Tsleil-Waututh Nation people, culture and history is an asset.
- Experience and/or education in community engagement.
- Experience and interest in meeting facilitation.
- Experience with project management is an asset.
- Previous experience working in a First Nations community and/or organization is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Education, Experience and other requirements:
- Grade 12 or equivalent
- Ability to be neutral and listen to the community and Elders
- Computer and social media literate (MS word, Excel, Power Point)
- Zoom and Team meetings hosting (online meetings)
- Excellent organizational skills
- Willingness to be creative and open to different ways of engaging the community
- Willingness to learn new skills and attend training sessions and workshops
- Strong written and verbal communication
- Independence and a willingness to learn from team
- Experience hosting community events or meetings is preferred
- Strong knowledge of Tsleil-Waututh Nation structure, territory, culture and history
- Flexible Schedule
- Excellent facilitation skills.
- Excellent written communication and analytical skills; attention to detail.
- Self-motivated; able to work successfully independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to exercise considerable independence and judgement.
- Strong project management skills, with ability to meet deadlines and objectives
- Proficient with computers and Microsoft Office Programs (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
- Ability to solve practical problems in a culturally appropriate manner and deal with many variables in situations.
- Ability to demonstrate flexibility, cooperation and ability to shift priorities rapidly.\
- Must have Driver’s License and own vehicle.
