JOB SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Community Services Administrator, the Education Manager leads the coordination and implementation of Tsleil-Waututh Nation’s education programs and annual work plan priorities, supporting learners from K–12 through post-secondary pathways. This role is grounded in a holistic, culturally responsive, and trauma-informed approach that centers the well-being, strengths, and aspirations of each student.
The Education Manager provides individualized education and career planning support, including confidential one-on-one guidance, to promote academic success, retention, and long-term achievement. A key responsibility of this role is to advocate for Tsleil-Waututh Nation students within school districts and educational systems, ensuring their rights, needs, and cultural identities are respected, upheld, and meaningfully integrated into their learning experience. Working closely with students, families, school staff, and community partners, the Education Manager fosters strong relationships and collaborative partnerships that create inclusive, nurturing, and culturally safe learning environments.
In addition to direct student support, the Education Manager is responsible for program coordination and administrative oversight, including tracking work plan objectives, managing budgets, maintaining accurate student records, and preparing reports and proposals for funding agencies. The role also contributes to the broader Community Development team by participating in strategic planning, service coordination, and continuous improvement of programs and services aligned with Nation priorities.
Through a team-centered and community-driven approach, the Education Manager plays a key role in strengthening education pathways, advancing equitable access to opportunities, and supporting the Nation’s vision of lifelong learning, self-determination, and community well-being.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Build and maintain strong, respectful relationships with students, families, school staff, and community partners to support educational success across K–12 and post-secondary pathways
- Advocate for Tsleil-Waututh Nation students within school districts and external education systems, ensuring their rights, needs, and cultural identities are respected and upheld
- Liaise and collaborate with internal departments, external stakeholders, and education partners to strengthen coordinated, wraparound supports for students and families
- Participate in stakeholder meetings, committees, and community tables, providing input that reflects community priorities and student needs
- Support individualized education and career planning by engaging with students and families, offering guidance, and assisting with access to programs and services
- Assist students and families in completing applications, forms, and required documentation for education programs and supports, ensuring timely processing (e.g., tuition, school cheques, bus passes, and related supports)
- Maintain accurate, confidential, and up-to-date student records, files, and case notes, including documentation of student interactions and progress
- Coordinate and support key education programs, including K–12 supports and Post-Secondary programming, ensuring alignment with work plan priorities
- Assist with the planning, coordination, and delivery of education-related events, workshops, and community initiatives, including those in collaboration with other TWN departments
- Support the TWN student transportation program, including scheduling and coordination of bus services
- Prepare, review, and distribute communication materials (e.g., newsletters, flyers, notices, letters, and event calendars) to ensure clear and consistent communication with the community
- Collect and compile information and data for program tracking, funding reports, proposals, and annual reporting requirements
- Process and track administrative and financial documentation, including timekeeping, accounting forms, and program-related expenses
- Liaise with organizations such as First Nation Education Steering Committee (FNESC) and other external partners to identify training, funding, and development opportunities that enhance education services and staff capacity
- Maintain a high standard of professionalism, cultural safety, confidentiality, and relational practice in all interactions
- Contribute as an active member of the Community Development team by participating in team meetings, supporting integrated service delivery, and aligning with departmental and Nation priorities
- Perform other related duties as required to support the overall success of education programs and services
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Post-secondary education in Education, Social Work, Indigenous Studies, Human Services, or a related field is preferred; a combination of relevant education, lived experience, and community-based knowledge will be considered
- Minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience in education, program coordination, or a fast-paced, community-based or administrative environment
- Demonstrated experience working with Indigenous communities, with a strong understanding of Tsleil-Waututh Nation values, culture, and community context considered a strong asset
- Knowledge of K–12 and post-secondary education systems, including experience supporting students through education pathways, is an asset
- Experience advocating for individuals within systems (e.g., school districts, education institutions, or social services) is considered an asset
- Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with the ability to work respectfully and effectively with students, families, staff, and external partners
- Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality, exercise sound judgment, and apply a trauma-informed, culturally safe, and person-centered approach in all interactions
- Strong organizational and administrative skills, including the ability to manage multiple priorities, maintain accurate records, and meet reporting deadlines
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and general computer systems
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team-centered environment aligned with Community Development values and priorities
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License and access to reliable transportation
- Successful completion of a Criminal Record Check

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Physical Demands
- Requires manual dexterity for operating computers and related equipment, along with significant desk work.
- Involves intermittent physical activity, including walking, standing, sitting, and lifting or supporting clients.
- Responsible for setting up program spaces, which may include moving and lifting tables, chairs, and other equipment.
- Must be willing to participate in job-related workshops, training, seminars, and conferences to maintain and upgrade skills.
Mental Focus
- Tasks may need to be completed under tight deadlines, which can create stress.
- May work with individuals who can occasionally be demanding or challenging; must remain patient, calm, and professional while engaging in conflict resolution or crisis management.
Environmental Conditions
- Work includes some office tasks (documentation, note-taking) but is primarily active and hands-on with youth.
- Interacts with community members, staff, management, and the general public.
- Flexible schedule required to meet youth needs, including evening shifts a few nights per week (e.g., Friday and Saturday). Overtime may occasionally be required.
- Travel may be necessary depending on program needs.
