Introducing TWN Alert!
TWN Alert! is an emergency notification system that enables the Tsleil-Waututh Nation to communicate important information quickly in the event of an emergency or other events impacting the health and safety of the community. Register today and receive up-to-date information during an emergency.
TWN Alert! is powered by Voyent Alert!, a multi-purpose notification service specifically designed to meet the needs of our Tsleil-Waututh community. Once registered, you will receive critical alerts during an emergency, such as a flood or earthquake, as well as informational alerts, such as weather advisories, roadway closures, wildlife in the area, and service disruptions.
When an emergency occurs, text, email, phone / landline calls and voicemails, as well as mobile app messages will be sent to all recipients in the impacted area. You can register for one or all methods of communication.
This free service provides access to trusted, timely, and accurate information to ensure your own safety and that of your family and loved ones. TWN Alert! is available to all Tsleil-Waututh Nation community members, on or off reserve, TWN staff, family of school and daycare children, leaseholders, and visitors.
How It Works
TWN alerts are defined by our geographic area on reserve. You will receive an alert no matter where you are in the world. All alerts will be sent as either informational advisories or critical alerts, depending upon their severity.
Critical Alerts: You will receive a critical alert during events that pose an immediate threat to the safety of the community such as severe weather, floods, fires, earthquakes, gas leaks, or police incidents.
Critical emergency alerts are sent with a red colour and include a loud, distinct sound and vibration (for mobile app notifications). All users of TWN Alert! will receive critical alerts. Please note that all critical emergency alerts can be enabled to override your ‘do not disturb’ settings on your mobile phone.
Important information such as the distance and direction from an incident and preferred evacuation routes from your followed locations are provided. Where needed, you will receive follow up updates as well as conclusion notifications.
Informational Alerts: For non-emergency advisories, you will receive these as informational alerts for situations such as wildlife in the area, weather advisories, planned utility outages, or roadway closures.
These informational alerts will show up as yellow in colour and will be categorized by Public Topic groups. When you register, you will be able to select which topic group(s) you are interested in receiving notifications from and which ones you are not interested in. You can always change these at a later date.
Each alert will include information about the situation, instructions, and contact information. Some alerts will include photos and links to map locations.
If you decide to receive alerts by phone, including landlines, you will get a call and be asked to ‘press 1’ to hear the message. All calls sent to your phone will show up as the TWN main reception line on your caller ID.
