Job Summary:

At TWN School we offer a unique learning program. Our ideal candidates have a passion for teaching and inspire learning in all of our students. We are looking for teachers who are excellent communicators, organizers and collaborators and who make a positive difference in our school.  A Resource as a key member of the faculty, a Resource Teacher will contribute to the development and overall improvement of TWN School.

Under the direction of the Vice-Principal, and working collaboratively with teachers, support staff and other members of staff, a Resource Teacher will support the needs of teachers by supporting students with learning tasks, teaching lessons, organizing the learning environment, providing social and emotional care for students, and performing other duties as assigned by teachers, Principal or Vice-Principal. The Resource Teacher will be responsible for covering classes of regular learning group teachers when needed.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Teaching and Learning

  • Support teachers by working in classrooms with small groups and individual students
  • Maintain constant awareness of the needs of students
  • Ensure students are actively engaged in their own learning
  • Empower students to be responsible and take action
  • Accommodate special needs of students as directed
  • Teach lessons as directed by a Teacher, Principal or Vice-Principal
  • Provide teacher on call support as required

Management Support

  • Assist in organizing events specific to the grade/class/subject area
  • Provide meaningful and timely communication to faculty, staff and management
  • Assist in monitoring student attendance, behaviour and progress
  • Inform the appropriate ‘person of responsibility’ of issues or concerns regarding parents,staff or students
  • Initiate and take responsibility for classroom displays as directed
  • Create and prepare teaching resources as directed
  • Maintain resources and storage areas as directed

Professional Appraisal and Development

  • As instructed, engage in professional development in order to better understand the needs

of students and the classroom instructional program

  • Actively participate in constructive professional appraisal
  • Seek and act upon constructive feedback and advice

Involvement in the Wider School Community

  • Lead or assist with co-curricular activities
  • Positively support school initiatives organized by staff, students or parents through active participation and promotion within classrooms
  • Promote school unity by attending staff social functions when possible
  • Attend the school’s special events
  • Assist in the preparation of assembly presentations
  • Attend and actively participate in scheduled meetings
  • Maintain an active presence in common areas during scheduled supervision duties
  • Take positive action to ensure the school is clean and well maintained, classrooms are neat and attractive and displays in classrooms and general-purpose areas reflect the pursuit of excellence
  • Perform other duties as required.


  • A Bachelor of Education Degree (Secondary Level)
  • A valid BC Teaching certificate or eligibility for certification through the BC Teacher Regulation Branch (TRB)
  • Must undergo and successfully pass a Criminal Record Check – vulnerable sector.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching.
  • Excellent verbal, written, facilitation and organizational skills.
  • A culturally sensitive educator. In-depth knowledge of First Nations cultural context is an asset.
  • Displays social-emotional competencies of self-awareness, empathy, flexibility, relationship-building and responsible decision-making.
  • Within a collaborative environment, develop a comprehensive understanding of curriculum with the ability to influence instruction, assessment, indigenous education and social-emotional learning practices.
  • Ability to implement effective strategies to engage and support academic success for all learners in an inclusive environment
  • Experience in designing and applying various assessment techniques to measure and monitor student progress.
  • Committed to professional development with a desire to learn and implement new methodologies and strategies to provide a creative, engaged, and inclusive classroom experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply relevant computer technologies to teaching and learning (For example, Google G Suite for Education).
  • Collaborates with students, parents and staff to enhance the school as a learning community.

 Work Conditions:

Physical Demands

  • Intermittent physical activity including standing for extended periods of time.
  • Manual dexterity required to operate computer.

Mental Focus

  • May deal with youth who can, from time to time, be demanding and challenging. Must be able to remain patient and committed to teaching, and may have to engage in conflict resolution or crisis management at times.
  • May have to manage a number of projects at one time, and may be interrupted frequently to meet the needs of youth and organizations.

Environmental Conditions

  • Interacts with community members, employees, management and the general public.
  • Noise levels may escalate during activities, events and outings.
