Job Summary:

Reporting to the TWN Communications Manager, the Communications and Engagement Assistant will be involved in various aspects of implementing Tsleil-Waututh Nation’s communications, engagement strategies, and event coordination. Working with the Communications and Engagement team, the role will engage with members and departments, coordinate space and catering bookings, post on communications platforms, and support with events to ensure that the community remains regularly informed and meaningfully engaged, while reflecting and enhancing Tsleil-Waututh culture, language, and traditions. The Assistant will become well versed in current and emerging TWN projects and priorities and help ensure the team remains responsive to emerging needs and proactive in developing solutions.

 

Duties & Responsibilities:

  •  In collaboration with Communications and Engagement team members, this role implements communications, engagement, and event plans and strategies that include the following duties:
    • Schedule and post regular content on internal TWN communications platforms including internal social media accounts, the community newsletter, and a mobile app.
    • Post regular content on external TWN communications platforms including the public website and external social media accounts.
    • Outreach and engagement to members.
    • Coordinate catering and space bookings for Administration events.
    • Provide logistical support at Administration events.
    • Attend departmental meetings, respond to, and prioritize tasks.

 

Support with:

    • Administering surveys and polls.
    • Photography and videography.
    • Maintaining the TWN events and programming calendar.
    • The gift inventory, with a focus on TWN artists.
    • Newsletter and notice delivery coordination.
    • Incoming requests via email.

Other duties will be assigned as required.

Qualifications:

  • Completion of a high school diploma.
  • Certificate in event planning and/or communications fields is an asset.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • 1+ years’ experience working in a similar capacity.
  • Experience in First Nation communities is an asset.
  • May consider a combination of relevant education and experience.

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of Tsleil-Waututh Nation culture and history is an asset.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Display excellent interpersonal skills and recognize, respect, and work effectively with individuals and groups with diverse perspectives and backgrounds.
  • Comfortable communicating through a variety of technology, including email and other cloud-based systems such as Microsoft 365.
  • Working knowledge of office equipment (e.g., printer, copier, and scanner) as well as modern devices, technology, and online spaces (e.g., Zoom, Microsoft Teams).
  • Interest in photography and videography.
  • Ability to work effectively independently and in a team environment.
  • Entry level skills in graphic design are an asset.
  • Ability to gather, record, and organize information.
  • Willingness to participate in work-related courses, seminars and training as required. (e.g., learning about Canva graphic design tool).

Physical Demands

  • Significant desk work and manual dexterity (keyboard operations).
  • Ability to lift equipment, supplies or materials up to 25 lbs. may be required.
